A unique experience high above the Alps
Hang gliding has seen a significant decline in popularity over the years, particularly when compared to paragliding. There are several reasons for this trend:
1. The remarkable evolution of paragliding: Over the years, paraglider wings have advanced significantly, now offering superior performance, greater stability, enhanced comfort, and 360-degree visibility.
2. Performance: Paragliding now outperforms hang gliding, particularly thanks to much more efficient gliding in standard conditions. This allows for flight distances and durations that can be double those of hang gliding.
Due to these factors, Delta Évasion—a pioneer in tandem hang gliding in France with over 52,000 flights to its credit—has decided to focus instead on paragliding flights.
This choice ensures optimal flight times and also allows us to accommodate a wide range of passengers, weighing from 10 to 120 kg.
What's it like?
In ahang glider, the pilot sits in a reclined position, like a bird, which allows them to reach higher speeds and achieve greater control than with aparaglider.
You’ll ride the updrafts, perform a few acrobatic maneuvers for a more thrilling flight, before landing inDoussard, where you can relax atDeltalandto recover from the excitement!
Enjoy a magnificent scenic flight overLake Annecy, where the weather conditions are exceptional. Experience the sensation of gliding silently through the air in atandem hang glider, and fly with ease alongside our professional instructor pilots, who will be happy to answer all your questions.
A story of ambition
The wing ofthefirsthang gliderfrom the 1950s was originally triangular in shape, lightweight, foldable, and flexible: the Rogallo wing.
Léo Valentin, an experienced skydiver, was dubbed the first “bird-man” to glide in ahang glider, but he still had to deploy a parachute to land.
In the 1960s, thedeltawing was invented, making it possible to fly rather than just glide. The term“hang glider” was born!
In France, the firsthang gliding flighttook place in 1973 from the Aiguille du Midi in the Mont Blanc massif.
By the end of the 20th century, advances in composite materials manufacturing made it possible to create a rigid wing with integrated control surfaces, thereby ensuring simpler and safer handling.
At the same time, training to fly this aircraft is becoming increasingly professional, andhang glidingis becoming a reliable and safe activity.
Meeting place.
To ensure you have the best possible experience on yourflight, we’ll meet at Deltaland, near theDoussardmultipurpose hall (Route de la Plaine), the landing site forhang glidersandparagliders.
Your companions and children can spend their time there while waiting for you to return, having a drink and enjoying the trampoline and bouncy castle.
An exceptional view
No matter which package you choose, our pilots will take you aboard one of our shuttles tothe Col de la Forclaz(above the village ofMontmin) to reach the takeoff site.
After a quick briefing in French or English, your instructor will help you into a harness that looks like a sleeping bag.
Ready to take off? All you have to do is run a few meters in tandem to build up speed before gently soaring into the air like a“SUPERMAN”
